Agate Butterfly Pendant (Brown)

Agate Butterfly PendantAlthough I didn't carve this agate butterfly, I did turn it into a pendant and hung it on a 16" silver plated chain. I also added the wire antennae. Yes, I know if you look closely there are pair carved on. Let's call it artistic licence. It looks better with my addition don't you think?

Agates are believed to be "grounding stones" that bring about emotional, physical and intellectual balance, having the power to harmonise yin and yang.

Surprisingly to our modern attitudes, butterflies have a somewhat negative reputation in British folk law, with people being encourages to kill them on sight... or at least to kill the first one that they saw each year, for luck!

Native Americans however, regarded butterflies as a symbol of change, joy and color, and considered them to be a miracle of transformation and resurrection.

We can only speculate that perhaps the British of old were a little more zealous in protecting their vegetable plots than we are today.

Our agate butterfly is approximately 40mm across at the widest part of it's wings.
